In 2016, Eni entered the Rabat Deep Offshore License as operator of a high-risk frontier exploration play targeting Jurassic carbonates in the northern Moroccan offshore. The Saipem 12000 drillship spudded the Rabat Deep-1 well on 14 March 2018 in 1,100 meters of water depth, reaching a final depth of 3,180 meters within the Jurassic carbonates on 26 April 2018.
The entire 57-day operation was completed safely, with no accidents or injuries, and in full compliance with Moroccan regulations and international industry standards. The success of the project was made possible thanks to the strong cooperation and continuous support provided by ONHYM throughout all phases of the project, from the negotiation of agreements to the completion of technical operations.
